Pakistan-France marked 60 years of cooperation in Archaeology
Paris 19th April, 2019: A special event to mark the 60 years of archaeological cooperation between Pakistan and France was held at the Embassy in Paris yesterday.
This function was the first formal event organized by the Association of Friends of Pakistan after its establishment last year. The event was attended by the officials of the French Foreign Ministry, members of French archaeological mission, scholars, researchers and media persons.
Dr. Aurore Didier, the current Head of the French Archaeological Mission in the Indus Basin (MAFBI) was the key note speaker. Tracing the history of the French archaeological mission in the Indus Basin founded in 1958, she said that it had excavated major archaeological sites in Pakistan such as Amri in Sindh, Mehrgarh Nindowari, Nausharo, Miri Qalat and Shahi Tomb in Balochistan. She said the mission especially take pride in its discovery of Mehrgarh in Balochistan which was the most ancient civilization in the entire South Asian region.
Dr. Didier said that the extensive research and deep studies carried out during the last 60 years by the French and Pakistani archaeologists have produced invaluable data, highlighting the existence of thousand of years old civilization in the region which is now Pakistan.
The Ambassador of Pakistan to France Mr. Moin ul Haque speaking on the occasion conveyed his congratulations on reaching this important milestone in the long history of strong and continuous cooperation between France and Pakistan in the field of archaeology. Noting that the important discoveries made by the French team in Balochistan and Sindh, had greatly contributed to understanding of ancient cultures and civilizations in Pakistan, he specifically thanked Prof. Jean-Francois Jarrige and Roland Besenval, the two French archaeologists, who were the pioneers in setting up the French Archaeology Mission and discovering Mehrgarh.
The Ambassador conveyed his special thanks to Mrs. Fredrika Sundberg, President of the Association of Friends of Pakistan and other members of the Association for organizing this excellent event. He also appreciated the support of MAFBI and the French government for training of the Pakistani students and researchers and imparting them with latest excavation techniques, skills and knowledge in the field of archaeology.
Later, Ambassador gave special memento shields to the widow of Prof. Jarrige, son of Mr. Besenval and Dr. Didier to mark the 60 years of French Archeology Mission in Pakistan.

پاکستان اور فرانس کے درمیان آثار قدیمہ کے شعبہ میں تعاون کو 60 سال مکمل ہو گئے
پیرس 19 اپریل:2019 پاکستان اور فرانس کے درمیان آثار قدیمہ پر باہمی تعاون کے 60 سال مکمل ہونے پر گزشتہ روز سفارت خانہ پاکستان میں ایک پروقار تقریب کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔
اس تقریب کا اہتمام ایسوسی ایشن برائے پاکستان دوستی گروپ کی جانب سے کیا گیا تھا۔ اس تقریب میں فرانسیسی وزارت خارجہ، فرانسیسی آثار قدیمہ مشن کے اراکین، سکالرز، محقیقین اور صحافیوں کی بڑی تعداد نے شرکت کی۔
ڈاکٹر ارورے دیدیئر سربراہ فرانسیسی آثار قدیمہ برائے انڈس بیسن نے اس موقع پر خصوصی خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ پاکستان میں آثار قدیمہ کے مقامات کی کھدائی کے دوران سندھ میں امری اور بلوچستان میں مہرگڑھ نندواری، نوشہرو، مری قلات اور شاہی مقبرہ دریافت کیئے گئے ہیں۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ یہ مشن خاص طور پر بلوچستان میں مہر گڑھ کی دریافت پر فخر کرتا ہے کیونکہ یہ جنوبی ایشیاء کے خطے کی سب سے پرانی تہذیب ہے۔ فرانسیسی آثار قدیمہ برائے انڈس بیسن 1958 میں بنایا گیا تھا۔
ڈاکٹر دیدیئر نے کہا کہ گذشتہ 60 سالوں میں وسیع پیمانے پر تحقیق اور گہرے مطالعے کے بعد پاکستانی اور فرانسیسی ماہرین آثار قدیمہ نے پاکستان میں موجود ہزاروں سال پرانی تہذیبوں کے وجود کو نمایاں کیا ہے اور ان سے متعلق انتہائی قیمتی مواد بھی اکھٹا کیا ہے۔
جناب معین الحق سفیر پاکستان نے اس موقع پر اپنے خطاب میں فرانسیسی آثار قدیمہ کی انتظامیہ کو مبارک باد پیش کی اور کہا کہ فرانس اور پاکستان کے درمیان آثار قدیمہ کے شعبہ میں مضبوط اور مسلسل تعاون کے باعث یہ شعبہ ایک تاریخی حیثیت حاصل کر چکا ہے۔ انہوں نے سندھ اور بلوچستان میں آثار قدیمہ کی اہم دریافتوں کا تذکرہ کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ پاکستان میں موجود قدیم ثقافتوں اور تہذیبوں کو سمجھنے کیلئے فرانسیسی آثار قدیمہ مشن پاکستان کا اہم شراکت دار ہے۔
سفیر پاکستان نے فریڈریکا سنبرگ، صدر برائے ایسوسی ایشن فرینڈز آف پاکستان اور ایسوسی ایشن کے اراکین کا اس پروقار تقریب کا انعقاد کرنے پر ان کا خصوصی شکریہ ادا کیا۔ انہوں نے فرانسیسی آثار قدیمہ مشن برائے انڈس بیسن اور فرانسیسی حکومت کی طرف سے پاکستانی طالبعلموں اور محقیقین کو آثار قدیمہ کے مقامات کی کھدائی کے طریقوں اور آثار قدیمہ کے شعبے میں تربیت اور مہارت دینے پر ان کا شکریہ ادا کیا۔
بعد ازاں، سفیر پاکستان نے فرانسیسی آثار قدیمہ کے مشن کے پاکستان میں 60 سال مکمل ہونے پر پروفیسر جیرگ کی بیوہ اور جناب بینوال کے بیٹے اور ڈاکٹر دیدیئر کو یاد گاری شیلڈز پیش کیں۔
